Share the Joy

Every year for Christmas Luke and I always give back. We do this instead of buying gifts for each other. This is something that I really want to make a yearly tradition with L. So this year we decided to Share the Joy with our local fire department. L is a little obsessed with trucks right now, particuarly fire trucks. So we thought this would be something great for him to enjoy.

I went to World Market and decided that I would create a basket for the Firemen. A basket filled of things that they would be able to bake on their own.

I even found this cute create your own gift station the was in the center of World Market, such a fun idea.

So I spent several hours in World Market, (in only felt like minutes) looking around and trying to decide what would be the best for the local Fire Department.

I grabbed two toffee slabs, I thought that would be a great idea for all the guys to snack on.

I ended up creating this basket packed full of goodies. Everything from cookie mix to all the necessities for making pizza, coffee, and I couldn’t forget the blood orange soda and lemonade (not to mention a huge bag of gummy bears!) I mean, World Market has so much of a selection. (side note: I got that basket at World Market, I thought it would be so cute for them to put Smoky, the fire house dog’s toys in. It has a chalkboard tab on it, such a great idea!)

Liam and I went to the fire station together, Luke wasn’t home so he didn’t get to come. Of course the firemen were very surprised to see us and Liam ran straight to the open door into the garage to look at the fire trucks. I managed to get some pictures of him. Luckily the guy that showed us around has a son Liams age so he knew what L would like to see.

They were so surprised that someone thought enough of them to bring food. They said normally when they get food it’s the left overs. That really made me feel so happy that we chose them to share the joy with. And since we don’t have a World Market in the town we live in, I know this will be extra special for them to try since everything at World Market is go stinking good!! Of course by the time we got done taking the tour, one of the other guys had began putting the food away, and then they got a call so I was only able to snap this picture of it on the table.

and then I got a really nice Facebook message from one of the firemen, that Luke and I went to school with, who was also the same guy that showed us around.

I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to Share the Joy. It’s a good reminder that even though right now we are currently going through struggles, that it’s always important to give back and share when you can. You never know whose day you’ll make by doing something kind, big or small!

So I’d love to hear, do you Share the Joy during the Holidays? If so, in what ways?
